Beside Still Waters Farm

About Us

Earl and Christy Collins became innkeepers in 1998 with the purchase of The Village Inn Bed & Breakfast in Stone Mountain, Georgia. After five years with over 1500 guests a year, the inn sold in 2003 and the Collins relocated to Mendocino County to open Beside Still Waters Farm.

The plans had been in the making since early 2001. The first priority was downsizing. With fewer guest rooms, more amenities could be offered and guests would receive more personalized service.

The next issue was noise transfer from room to room — solved by creating individual cottages instead of shared walls.

This also made accommodating families easier without disturbing other guests.

Location was carefully chosen for proximity to the Bay Area, wine country, coast, and redwoods, with climate being a key factor.

The Sherwood Road property met every item on their wish list — even down to blackberries and apple trees.

Beside Still Waters Farm opened Easter Weekend of 2004 and continues welcoming guests from across the country.

Earl, originally from Pennsylvania, worked in the printing industry and enjoys nature photography.

Christy, from California, previously worked in software and enjoys scrapbooking, reading, and gardening.

Alyssa Brooke was born in November 2001 and loves the outdoors, animals, and meeting new people.

She has grown up in a bed and breakfast — even the day she was born, guests were staying at the inn!
Special thanks to Mitchell and Torey Rose of You’re Sew Special, Inc. for creating and installing the window treatments and linens.

We also recommend fellow innkeepers of the Caucus of American Innkeepers (CAIK Inns).
